Lesson learned…
Earlier, I shared my feelings about an article written by a HK Chinese writer about Filipinos. I also read the comments posted on that site and frankly, a lot has been said about it.
But you know, one Filipino guy, calls himself “mandirigma”, was able to identify that the article really is a satire. I read the article again. Gave myself time to think about it, and to tell you honestly, my stand about the article has turned 180 degrees. Thanks to “mandirigma” who “saw” what the piece was really all about.
I am grateful to Chip Tsao for writing the article. He may have shocked me for a couple of hours, but now, I am actually glad that he wrote his piece on that magazine. To tell you honestly, I have never read any satirical piece. I guess the closest literary work that closely resembles a satire (a piece that lampoons or parodies the people or government) is our national hero’s works, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Sure, we can spot satire on TV (comedy shows), in the movies, or even in music, but in paper? Well, this is my first time.
It made me realize how impulsive and how literal I am. I learned a lesson. Things are not always what they seem to be.
Read the article. Tell me what you think.
